Loneliness

Loneliness is such a huge part of our society today and many people do not fully realize it. We all interact over the internet, sharing our stories, commenting on others and connecting (in a way) to people. Unfortunately socializing in this way does not satisfy the part of us that needs person to person interaction. Everyone varies on how much they need or the type but we all need to have it. Studies show that loneliness can lead to many other problems, both with your mental health and physical health.

How do we stop from being lonely? Many of us have been going this way for awhile and now do not know where we should go to connect or have some form of interaction. As we get older it may become even more challenging to find friends or acquaintances. Furthermore, it can be frightening to put ourselves out there. However, if successful you could be taking that first step to a happier and healthier future.

Taking positive steps toward socialization and healthier living starts with understanding yourself. What do you enjoy doing? Is there something you have always wanted to try? Look for activities in your town or local library or over websites like meetups online to find some people that have similar interests, or join a local church or political group, or volunteer. These are a few ways to put yourself out there and start the process. This is much easier to say than do; but the reward can be life changing.

Loneliness can be the end of everything for us or it can be the signal we need to start something new.  It can be beautiful if we listen to it and take the steps to make the changes. Every person is unique and special in their own way.  There are people out there looking for friends like you. It just takes putting yourself out there to find them or to have them find you. Understand and appreciate how much we need personal interaction and affection from others.  It is a beautiful. If you are struggling to find your way out,  look for a therapist that understands and may assist you in finding your inner strengths and joys to move in a positive direction.
